Meerkat Manor - The Cutest Faces On TV

Usually I don't like soap operas, but when I saw Zaphod face the camera in the list of characters for MEERKAT MANOR I was smitten.

These are really charming animals. They have an involved social network in their colony named The Whiskers. The relationships that develop each episode always leave you wondering what will happen next.

One rule that causes never ending problems is the limits allowed for reproduction. The alpha female is usually the only one who is permitted to have pups, and with the alpha male. In the Whiskers group, Flower is the lucky lady who can have a litter of pups four times a year. Zaphod is the male who grooms her, guards her when she's fertile, and tries to be her number one. It seems to be female meerkat nature for the others to give-in to the marauding Carlos, becoming pregnant. Then Flower, followed by the others, punishes the errant female. The cost of the crime is not always the same. And that's when you can't wait to see what will happen next. The offender could be ostracized from the group, the pups could be killed by Flower, or the mother could just get a scolding.

Another continuing battle is with the other colonies that border the Whisker's territory. As the group increases, so does the need to expand the feed lot. This also causes more rivalry between the border groups, which often ends in a fight with injuries.

This soap has as much drama as any other, but with the captivating meerkats. It has continued for three seasons, with a feature film to be released this year.

How and Where to Watch TV Online

The days of the television could be numbered. Statistics show that people are spending more and more time in front of their computers, which will soon replace the trusty TV as the nation's number one form of entertainment.

While the potential of web video has always been apparent, but it not until recently that it has begun to match more traditional visual entertainment in terms of quality.

And the fact that computers offer so much more are making them an increasingly popular way to watch TV shows. Instead of waiting with bated breath for the next episode of your favorite series, or ruing the loss of an episode missed, you can have it all on demand at the internet.

The mention of watching TV shows and movies on the internet still can still have some connotations of shady practices such as torrenting pirated material and poor quality products. However, that is changing fast and internet TV is hitting the mainstream.

With fast connection speeds and technologies such as DivX you can watch high quality television and you can do it with a clear conscience.

Television networks have come to recognize the potential of the internet as a medium for broadcasting television shows. Networks like NBC, ABC and CBS allow you to stream TV shows if you have missed them on television. They are often posted on websites about one day after it airs on TV.

This is ideal if you miss an episode as you can go back and watch it any time. However, these streams are extremely popular and you may experience bad lag while attempting to stream the show if it aired recently. Shows usually stay online for about a week and are only available to United States residents.

Another option is Peer to Peer TV (P2PTV). The emergence of websites such as joost.com has made these a popular option for watching TV online. You will normally have to download a special client to watch these as the technology is similar to torrenting. Unlike torrenting the content is streamed, and not downloaded onto your hard drive so you may experience some lag at peak times.

It is now also possible to stream live television as it happens. Like P2PTV you need a client to do this and because it is live, shows are not available on demand. These services are especially popular for live music and sports events.

The internet being what it is, there are many options for watching TV shows and movies online. Torrenting clients are hugely popular but the legality and ethics of this practice are questionable, and it is a notorious way of infecting your computer with viruses. Many TV shows are also available to stream from 'unofficial' sources, but again this practice is questionable.

Satellite TV Dish - How They Work and Where to Get One Free

A few years ago, before DISH Network and DIRECTV launched their direct broadcast satellite companies, dishes were humongous - up to 9 feet in diameter. But now, thanks to modern technology, they're smaller than a saucer sled. Here's how satellite TV dishes work and where you can get one free.

What is a satellite TV dish?

A satellite dish is a round parabolic reflector, shaped like a saucer, that picks up TV signals. These dishes are typically 18 inches to 31 inches in diameter and made out of aluminum so they won't rust. They are aimed at a satellite hovering 22,300 miles above the equator that broadcasts TV signals down to earth.

Between the two major providers, DISH Network and DIRECTV, there are more than 25 satellites in orbit above the earth that broadcast more than 500 channels of programming to more than 27 million subscribers.

How does a satellite dish Work?

The curved satellite dish focuses the signal sent from a satellite to a feedhorn, that funny looking arm that sits in front of the dish. The feed horn amplifies the signal and sends it to a receiver. The receiver then converts the signal into audio and video signals and sends it to your TV.

Where can I get a free Dish?

Both DISH Network and DIRECTV will give you a free satellite TV dish if you sign up for one of their program packages. They'll also give you a four-room receiver system, universal remote controls, and free installation. Program packages start at less than $20, which is a pretty good deal if you're thinking about switching from cable or over-the-air TV.

Dish Network Satellite TV vs Cable TV - And the Winner Is

Wondering whether to choose DISH Network satellite TV or cable TV? Here's an overview that shows you the difference between the two and which one offers the most features for the least money.

Whose got the most channels?

With more than 355 channels, DISH Network has the most channels by far, all of which are broadcast in 100% digital format. The average number of channels for a typical cable company is 180 channels, and many of their channels are broadcast in outdated analog format, though many companies are working to improve their systems.

Who has the most HD (high definition) channels?

DISH Network currently has nearly 100 channels broadcast in high definition, with more on the way. Most cable companies carry only a handful of HD channels due to their outdated equipment.

Whose got the best price?

DISH Network is currently offering a 40-channel satellite TV package for $19.99 per month. I pay $37.75 for 100 channels which includes 34 music channels, all of which are broadcast in digital or HD format. Installation of my satellite TV system, which includes two DVR receivers, was free

Cable fees in the U.S. average $39.99 a month for a basic programming package. When I called my local cable company they quoted me $46.00 a month for 59 channels, plus $10.95 to add a few digital channels. Installation for two cable boxes was $75.

Who has the best equipment?

DISH Network will give you a free dish and a 4-room receiver system with remotes when you order one of their program packages. You can also get either a free HD receiver or a free DVR (digital video recorder) receiver that records up to 500 hours of programming.

Most cable companies give you free cable boxes and remotes when you order their service, and many will also give you a free HD or DVR recorder. The HD recorder my cable company offers records up to 60 hours of programming.

Whose got the cheapest installation fees?

Dish Network will install your satellite TV system for free. Cable company charges vary from free up to $75 or more depending on where you live and which cable company you choose.

Who's ranked highest in customer service?

J.D. Power & Associates scored DISH Network higher in performance, reliability, and cost of service than all the cable companies in the U.S. They scored the cable company in my area slightly higher in their billing category (ease of understanding and timeliness of bills).
